Learn the art of good listening

Effective listening is a powerful force for good and a valuable skill that you can learn.

Pick up better listening skills to help yourself, as well as others, and make the world a more sensitive place.

Coming 2025!

I want to learn!

What is listening good for?

Emotional Support

Want to support someone, but not sure how? Just listening can help.

Resolving Conflict

Too many arguments? Listening is the basis of conflict resolution.

Good Leadership

Good leaders are good listeners. The coaching mentality is built on listening.

Being Effective

Whether it's at work or in your personal life, being useful requires good listening.

Who am I, and why listencraft?

I have been on both sides of the listening relationship. I have coached and mentored others and I have had the frustration of not being listened to. I volunteer with Samaritans (the UK charity that started the first "suicide hotline" in 1953) and CodeYourFuture which is a volunteer teaching organisation. Not everyone listens well, and listening matters.

In 2021 (the last year for which statistics are available) there were 5,583 deaths registered as suicide in England and Wales [The ONS]. Suicide is the main cause of death in young people under the age of 35 in the UK. We need people to talk and, for that, someone needs to be listening.

Mental well-being is increasingly the concern of governments and businesses. In order to be genuinely helpful, people need to listen well. I want to give everyone the opportunity to learn better listening skills - so that they can support each other and make the world a more understanding place.

I have a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Computer Science. I am a software developer, and a more recent entrepreneur. So, to do something about it, I am best placed to make an app.

Listencraft is just starting out and needs your help!

You can help just by telling us that you are interested and what you think.

If you have the necessary skills, you might also help us with the following questions.

Principles

Education and psychology: What principles will inform the approach to learning and behaviour change?

Audience

Marketing and social media: Who do we want to reach, and how will we reach them?

Business

Business and funding: How will the work be funded? What will be the org's formal basis?

I want to contribute!
